Oracy at Horsenden

At Horsenden, oracy is at the heart of teaching and learning, giving pupils the confidence and skills to express their ideas, listen carefully and engage thoughtfully with others. We explicitly teach pupils how to speak, listen, question, challenge and build on the contributions of others across the curriculum. Through strategies such as Talk Partners, Talk Tactics and structured discussion activities, pupils learn to communicate clearly and respectfully in a range of contexts. We are proud to have been recognised as a Voice 21 Centre of Excellence 2025, reflecting our commitment to high-quality oracy education. Our aim is for every pupil to leave Horsenden as a confident, articulate and empowered communicator, ready to use their voice effectively within school and beyond.
