Prefects

Prefects were introduced at Horsenden for the 2022/23 academic year, and we will soon be announcing our Prefects for this year.

Prefects are pupils chosen from Year 5 and 6 who consistently demonstrate our school values, positive attitudes and exemplary behaviours. They are, in short, excellent role models for their peers. These children are provided with a timetable that allows them to visit the lunch halls and the playgrounds when other year groups are using them and to model sensible behaviours. They are also there to engage positively with other pupils in a friendly, caring way.

Another important role Prefects can help with is the mentoring and supporting of younger children. This might be helping them to improve their behaviour choices, giving them a friend to play with at lunch times and also helping them with their academic work, including presentation and handwriting.

In addition to this, Prefects are trusted with additional responsibilities and duties and help out the school in a variety of ways. Some of the extra duties they have performed include: selling poppies for Remembrance day, taking guests and visitors on tours of the school, helping out the office staff with admin tasks, presenting cards of gratitude on behalf of the school (such as to the lovely ladies who cooked our school Christmas dinner).
