French

At Horsenden Primary we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. All pupils will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and with the ultimate aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2.

The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing are taught across all units and all necessary grammar is covered in an age-appropriate way. This enables pupils to use and apply their learning in a variety of contexts, laying down solid foundations for future language learning.

Our aim is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating. Learning an additional language offers pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity and to develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences.

French Curriculum Overview:

As we develop our pupil's early French language skills, the following curriculum will be used. This is an adapted model (particularly for Key Stage 2) for the upcoming school year, based on gaps in knowledge and skills. This curriculum will evolve over the next 2 years as our pupils' language skills develop.

Knowledge Organisers

Knowledge organisers capture the key knowledge and vocabulary that pupils will be taught in each unit of learning. They are used by class teachers and pupils in various ways to help pupils remember key information. Parents and carers can support pupils at home by discussing what they've been learning in french, using the knowledge organiser to guide discussions.
